The Greatest Showmen- Movie

The musical drama “ The Greatest showmen” premiered on December 8 by the 20th-century fox studios. if you have not seen it, then you should first because this is a spoiler one. it is one of the most inspiring and moving theatrical film ever, starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, and Zendaya.

it starts with Hugh as a poor child who had “a dream that is keeping him awake at night and a million dreams for the world they’re gonna make.” a dream that is not common during the mid-19th century. taking a loan from the bank he used to work at, he opened the “Barnum’s American Museum” featuring different wax figures. his daughters suggested presenting what is alive when the tickets were not selling as much. he then recruited performers who are “freaks” like a Bearded lady, a dwarf, a guy with tattoos all over his body, and many more as seen in the picture. Gaining more attention and recognition, Phillip Carlyle a playwright from a prestigious family joined as a partner that led them to meet the queen of England and Loren Allred a famous opera singer. Hugh aka P. T. Barnum presenting Loren in a big magical performance while admonishing and shoving the “freak” performers at the corner.

We then move to a very powerful song they perform. it goes like this:

I am not a stranger to the dark
Hideaway, they say
’Cause we don’t want your broken parts
I’ve learned to be ashamed of all my scars
Runaway, they say
No one’ll love you as you are

But I won’t let them break me down to dust
I know that there’s a place for us
For we are glorious

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown ’em out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me

Don’t just jump the lyrics, C’mon read it if you want to get the whole point of this blog.

I am sure we all have challenges, hills, and valleys in our lives that are tripping us over and over again to leave us at the ground and weaken us to not crawl back again. making us bitter to one another. if you could look deep inside or listen to someone, there is always another person trying to diminish and shove us/them down, when life has its own troubles waiting for us at the gate. their song is a stand as they are not letting P. T. Barnum treat them like they are valueless like their neighbors he brought them out of.

our bitter heart cast, our boneless tongue break one another.

there are very powerful songs in the world making a statement that the storm won’t get them down and break them but that is not the hardest part of life. it is the inability to get back up again.

Do you know the Japanese term kintsugi / 金継ぎ which is made up of two words: ken meaning golden and tsugi meaning joinery or repair. The broken pieces’ gilded restoration usually takes up to three months, as the fragments are carefully glued together with the sap of an indigenous Japanese tree, left to dry for a few weeks, and then adorned with gold running along its cracks. The philosophy behind it is that “celebrate the flaws and the art of embracing imperfection.”

Everyone has flaws and imperfections that they want to hideaway. we are afraid and ashamed to show them.

The thing is when we get broken we get stronger and lavish. this is not the common “motivational” speaking type of blog that says “ you have the power to get back up….”.NO! this is all about developing a strong growing mindset. we either fall and always bring up our defensive yet weak shield with us or we find a way on how we can get up stronger. Yes, we once were broken, we can’t forget it but we can repair it, use it as a stepping stone. if we are always ashamed of our flaws people are going to use them against us, then be broken again.

“We fall many times. But we find strength within to rise again.”
Lailah Gifty Akita

we are living a horrible world full of challenges in every step of our way. Life is hard, for EVERYONE. every day we go through different hardships, and sometimes we also experience traumatic life events that shred us into pieces. trying not to let that or your failure or flaw define your life requires lots of work, if repairing a broken bawl with gold takes more than90 days, imagine yours? it surely will take a lot of time.

Ultimately, our flaws and imperfections should not be the very next reason for our mistreatment, failure, or the awaiting obstacle life is lining up. unless we embrace, accept, and work on them with golden repairs.

*I love bringing an idea to the ground, that is why I am planning on continuing this topic on how we can actually accept and live with our flaws in the real world. so follow me for a notification when I publish the next series.
